REPORT: FORD IS SUING JOHN CENA FOR SELLING HIS FORD GT

Flipping a Ford GT is a breach of contract, and Ford says Cena's promises to 'make it right' haven't materialized

Ford didn’t see it coming, but a report from The Detroit News claims John Cena flipped his GT just weeks after releasing a video on YouTube detailing his excitement upon receiving the Liquid Blue hypercar.
Not crash-flipped -- sold-flipped. And now, Ford is suing.
Buying a Ford GT requires some hurdles beyond having the cash to do so. Previous ownership is a plus, activity on social media is another plus, having a recognizable name and face are also plusses -- all things Cena clearly has.
The last hoop, though, is signing a legal document stating you won’t sell the car for at least 24 months.

Why? Brand image and value: Nearly 6,500 applications were submitted for 500 cars. That leaves 6,000 people saying they were more deserving of the car than Cena. Resale of the car for a profit so soon after purchase erodes Ford's ability to sell the next iteration, and people complain that not enough GTs were built to support demand.
An apology has been issued by Cena, along with an explanation the car was sold "along with other assets to liquidate for cash to take care of expenses." Cena has offered to work with Ford to make things right. However, reportedly nothing has been done yet.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out given the potential for a PR nightmare, what with Ford suing a celebrity over its halo car.
